What is the knock that comes from the passenger footwell in my mk2 Golf GTI?
When I let the clutch out, basically starting from a standstill, if I’m not extra careful a knock comes from the passenger footwell. Any ideas? We’ve checked all the sub-frame bolts, all the bushes are ok, could it be the top-mount? Where is it coming from, it’s driving me nuts!
Yeah, k! I checked for squirrels, it aint them cos they’re a quiet bunch, I’m thinking it’s the gearbox mount, Also there is a fair bit of play in the cv joint. Actually I’m hoping it might be mel gibsons tequila bottle rolling around in the footwell! He he!
most probably your gearbox mount as this is on the passenger side, dead easy to change (basically 2x 17mm headed bolts running left -> right) you must support the gearbox with a trolley jack or similar though otherwise you’ll rip your engine mounts out.
